The Final of the Inter-Services
Championship
(130 stone)
A commentary by Thomas Woodrooffe from Olympia
Two of the four Services will be represented in the Final of the Heavyweight Tug-of-War, to be pulled tonight. Each team of eight men must scale not more than 130 stone, inclusive of trunks, vests, socks, and boots. Although the commentary is to last for a quarter of an hour it may well be that the result will not be known, for a tug-of-war, pulled at Jubbulpore, India, in 1889, between teams drawn from two companies of the 2nd Derbyshire Regiment, lasted for two hours and forty-one minutes. True, it was a record!
