Although the 17th-century English composer William Lawes wrote no madrigals, his viol consorts are full of the passionate and changeable expressiveness of the vocal music of the time. Anthony Rooley introduces the fruits of an experiment in which the Consort of Musicke create vocal works from Lawes's extraordinary and beautiful instrumental compositions.
