A serial for broadcasting in sixparts by Giles Cooper from the novel by John Wyndham
5—' World Narrowing '
Produced by Peter Watts
In the calamity of a blinded world, Bill Masen, one of the few people left with their sight, was separated from Josella Playton when the gangs raided the London University Buildings in search of sighted people to forage for them.
The breakdown of all services and the many unburied dead everywhere start a plague in London, and Bill escapes and sets out for the country to find the rest of the London University party, hoping that Josella, too, will have rejoined them.
In the West Country he finds a splinter group from the main party, but it proves to be unsatisfactory, and suddenly remembering that Josella had once mentioned friends in Sussex, he sets off across a deserted countryside, where the huge poisonous triffids seem to be the only things left alive.
