Frank Galvin is down on his luck and reduced to chasing ambulances for business, and hitting the bottle for recreation. When his old friend Mickey Morrissey presents him with a 'simple' case of medical malpractice it looks as if Frank's luck has changed. But defending the doctor in question is Ed Concannon - the city's most successful and ruthless lawyer.
The scene is set for a thrilling courtroom battle, with Paul Newman and James Mason cast as the rival legal eagles.
