Mass in three parts sung by the Ambrosian Singers
From the Holy Trinity Church. Prince Consort Road. London
Mass in four parts: August 7
Byrd's Masses are wonderfully various in Myle, and all three are masterpieces. Other great composers of his day Wrote numerous Masses (Palestrma more than ninety), but Byrd's five-Part setting is unsurpassed for euphony, his four-part for expressive-ness. In three parts he writes concisely but with grandeur. Restriction is no more limitation to him than to Mozart; this Mass has memorable sections, and reveals throughout the tieatest master of his age.
