The sole survivor of a wagon train attacked by Crow Indians, young Jim Aherne is rescued by the Sioux and raised as a member of the tribe.
Charlton Heston stars as Aherne who, renamed Warbonnet, becomes a leading warrior -but his Indian brothers begin to suspect his loyalty when he starts scouting for the white man. Then comes a rumour that the tribes are to be rounded up and put on to reservations, and Aherne's loyalties are tested to the extreme.
