0 Come, All Ye Faithful? Presented by Fred Emery Religious instruction and daily morning assembly are the only compulsory requirements in Britain's state schools. But many head teachers are abandoning Christmas carols and nativity plays - they say that the religious requirements are now out-of-date in a secular, multi-faith society.
Some groups want more radical changes: Muslim parents are agitating for their own state-financed schools, while Christian fundamentalists are rejecting the state system outright.
Margaret Jay reports on the muddle of religion in the classroom.
