When Pandorus escapes, with Lilli's help, Scobie is almost re-taken by his captors of the previous night. Secretly meeting Judy in the Greyfriars churchyard, he tells her that Pereira's life is in danger but refuses to go to the police. He agrees, however, that Pereira must be warned.
