The Royal Alfred Aged Merchant Seamen's Institution provides homes and pensions for aged and disabled officers and men of the British Merchant Navy and their dependants. H.M. the King is patron of the society and H.R.H. the Duke of Kent is the vice-patron. Present beneficiaries include 130 inmates of homes, 1,137 aged seamen out-pensioners, 390 widows of seamen, and 35 disabled seamen.
