We'd met a dealer in the People's Patisserie on Bogyoke Street, Rangoon, but before my friend could make the transaction he was picked-up by the plainclothes police on a zebra crossing. They confiscated the goods - a pair of Dunlop tennis shoes. To cheer ourselves up, we bought some Mandalay beer from the People's Brewery.
