The best performances and productions of 1992 in cinema and television are honoured by the British Academy for Film and Television Arts, live from London.
In the film categories British anticipation is running high with Howards End and The
CryingGaine each being nominated for six awards. The
Player and Clint Eastwood 's Unforgiven (both from the USA) and Australia's Strictly Ballroom all have four nominations.
For the television awards,
BBCtv's Absolutely Fabulous gets three nominations, while ITV's Inspector Morse and Jeeves and Wooster both figure twice. Among the artists in contention are Helen Mirren ,
Maggie Smith. Juliet Stevenson and Zoe Wanamaker for best actress. Alan Bates , Brian Cox , Ian Richardson and John Thaw for best actor, and Joanna Lumley , Patricia Routledge ,
Jennifer Saunders and Richard Wilson for best light-entertainment performance.
