Conductor, Leslie Heward. Louis Kentner (piano)
Completed in 1830, when Chopin was twenty years of age, the F minor Concerto was really his first concerto, is the so-called No. 1 in E minor was written afterwards but was the first to be published. Although structurally it follows the highly conventionalised pattern of Hummel, the scheme of harmony and modulation is bold and original, and the brilliant and individual treatment of the piano must have at first appe'ared startling.
