George Frederic Handel (1635-1759)
Each programme includes one of Handel's chamber cantatas which were written for a select, private audience of connoisseurs. He was thus able to explore a whole range of musical styles, from the idyllic to the dramatic, without being handicapped by considerations of popular operatic demands.
