There is growing pressure on the government to change Britain's laws relating to cannabis or ' pot ' - either to legalise it completely or to reduce the penalties for possession and smoking.
Those who argue for change believe the drug has been proved relatively harmless and that the law is therefore illogical. Opponents feel the research is not yet conclusive and that in any case we should err on the side of extreme caution before seeking to add any drug to the list of those in daily use.
