This is the true story of Richard Pape, Royal Air Force navigator, shot down over Germany during a bombing raid on Berlin. He escapes across Poland but is captured by the Gestapo in Cracow who torture him to make him reveal the identity of the Poles who helped him. He manages to hold out and is led before a firing squad for execution.
