On the half-a-dozen or more occasions that Mendelssohn visited London he often went to stay with William Horsley, Mus.Bac., Oxon, - composer of glees, canons and anthems and organist of the Asylum for Female Orphans - and his family, who lived at 1, High Row, Kensington Gravel-Pits. The house is still standing, but is now known as 128 Church Street. In the delightful company of William Horsley's children, Mendelssohn spent many happy hours. On some occasions they would have musical sessions in the drawing-room and Mendelssohn would play to them some of his latest compositions. The programme to be heard this afternoon is such that might have taken place on one of these occasions.
