The Queen Opens the Humber Bridge

on BBC One London

The world's longest single-span suspension bridge was officially opened today by Her Majesty The Queen. It has taken a century of ambition and planning - and a near-miracle of engineering - to achieve the dream of bridging the Humber Estuary. Eric Robson describes today's ceremony. Reporters Khalid Aziz and Mike Smartt tell the story of how the bridge was built - and what it means to the two communities it now links.
