'I'he Norris Stanley Sextet, founded by Norris Stanley , violinist and director of the Salon Orchestra, has been broadcasting now for some eight years. It consists of two violins, a viola, cello, bass, and piano, and its programmes 'are confined to music specially arranged for strings and piano.
Norris Stanley himself has been playing the violin since the age of five. He studied at the same time, and under the same master, as Paul Beard , Leslie Bridgewater , and Tom Jones , and by the age of sixteen was a member of Beecham's Opera Orchestra. In 1920 he became musical director for Poole's Theatres, Ltd., and in 1928 followed Tom Jones as leader of Pattison's Salon Orchestra of which he was a member for nine years.
