Psychohistory, a new development in historical method, attempts to use theories of psychoanalysis to explain the actions of historical figures. James Joll , Stevenson Professor of International History at the London School of Economics, chairs a discussion between Robert Waite , Brown Professor of History at Williams College, Massachusetts, and the author of The Psychopathic God, a biography of Hitler in which psychological investigation is used to throw light on the Fiihrer's personality, and Volker Berghahn , Professor of European History at Warwick University.
