First of a two-part fact-based drama, starring Wayne Rogers

1964, Mississippi: a reign of terror and violence by the Ku Klux Klan results in the disappearance of three black civil rights workers who were working to encourage local protest against the segregation laws. When they subsequently turn up dead, the FBI is forced to respond, and so begins a campaign by the Bureau's agents to get to the bottom of a case which appears, at first glance, to be intractable. A campaign against fear in the heart of America.

The events depicted also inspired Alan Parker's movie Mississippi Burning. Part 2 is on Thursday at 1 1.25pm.
