At the time of his death earlier this year, John Mackintosh was Labour mp for Berwick and East Lothian - where the by-election was held last week-and Professor of Politics at the University of Edinburgh. In this talk, David Marquand , now Professor of Contemporary History and Politics at the University of Salford, assesses his friend's contribution to national politics at Westminster and to the teaching of Political Science.
