Play of the Month: A Midsummer Night's Dream

on BBC One London

by William Shakespeare
starring Eileen Atkins as Titania
Ronnie Barker as Bottom
Lynn Redgrave as Helena
Robert Stephens as Oberon

Compared to Peter Brook's production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" for the Royal Shakespeare Company, currently showing in London's West End, tonight's television treatment of Shakespeare's classic comedy of errors - the first production in a new series of Play of the Month - is extremely traditional. Performed in Edwardian costume, the play is set in 1865 and was filmed entirely on location in and around Scotney Castle, a folly set in the Kent countryside outside Tunbridge Wells.
