Musical Diaries
With Donald Macleod.
2: Cosima Wagner. Cosima Wagner ' wrote her enormous diary for her children. "Your mother intends to tell you everything," she told them. It is a chronicle of her years with Richard Wagner and a testament to the transformation in her life that had been brought about by falling in love with him. Until then, her life had been "a dreary, unbeautiful dream". Living with a genius can be quite difficult, she found, but the glory of the music made it all worthwhile. Including: Wagner Siegfried Idyll
London Classical Players, conductor Roger Norrington
Beethoven Piano Concerto No 5 in E flat (Emperor) (excerpt) Vladimir Ashkenazy , Chicago Symphony
Orchestra, conductor Georg Solti Bach Prelude and Fugue in C sharp minor, BWV849 ("48", Bk 1) Kenneth Gilbert (harpsichord) Wagner The Ring (excerpts) Berlin Philharmonic, conductor Lorin Maazel
