England, unbeaten in six matches under coach Terry Venables, face a stern task at Wembley this evening when Uruguay visit for a friendly. Sportsnight screens highlights of an important game in England's preparation as host nation for next year's European Championship.
Owing to problems with their domestic league, and the fact that many of their top footballers are attached to clubs in Europe, it is difficult to predict Uruguay's form. By tradition they are strong in defence and have a typical Latin ability to counterattack quickly.
While England enjoy the benefit of automatic qualification, Scotland are in Russia today and Wales in Bulgaria with varying hopes of making it through to the European Championship. There are highlights, too, of their efforts.
