Guns Without a Grouse

on BBC Home Service Basic

View in Radio Times

How the Home Guard spent the 'Glorious Twelfth' on the Scottish moors by Alexander Keith.
In normal years this is the time when the ghillies and sportsmen of the Highlands are busy; the 'Glorious Twelfth' has opened the season for grouse-shooting, and everyone is keyed up to get an even bigger bag on the second day.
This year there is a difference.
The ghillies and the sportsmen are out with their guns on the moors - but not for grouse. They are looking for bigger game, and they are on duty by night as well as by day.
Alexander Keith is the well-known journalist who used to broadcast talks for Scottish gardeners.
