The Price of Beef

on BBC Radio 3

BSE has been present in British cows for about five years, and the disease still mystifies scientists. Yet despite uncertainties about whether it can be passed on to consumers of beef, the government has introduced several measures to combat the disease.
Geoff Watts asks if these measures are based on scientific principles, and if new diseases, such as BSE, are the price we have to pay for cheap food. Producer Deborah Cohen
