A Recital of Jacobite Music

on Regional Programme Scotland

View in Radio Times

Ethel McLean (soprano), Neil Forsyth (baritone)
The Strings of The BBC Scottish Orchestra
Arrangements, and conducted by Ian Whyte

Today is the 190th anniversary of the Battle of Culloden which put an end to the rebellion of the '45, and the programme-makers have seized the occasion to present a recital of Jacobite music, as well as the talk which follows. The recital will include a number of the accepted Jacobite tunes and words set for accompaniment for the strings of the BBC Scottish Orchestra by Ian Whyte.

Mrs Rex Arnot will speak of the part played by women in the rising. Everyone has heard of Flora Macdonald, but the names of Mrs Robertson, Lady Ogilvy, and Mrs Leith are not known. As Jean Seton, Mrs Arnot assisted her father, the late Sir Bruce Seton of Abercorn, in compiling 'The Prisoners of the '45'.
