Commonwealth Games Grandstand

on BBC One London

One of many memorable moments for British athletes in the recent European
Championships was Steve Backley's gold medal performance in the javelin.
Tonight, in Victoria, Backley will don an English vest and hope that he can add to his list of successes on the last day of the Commonwealth Games.
The javelin starts at 9.05 - as does the women's 1500-metres final. That was another event to cherish in Helsinki, where Kelly Holmes's grittily determined sprint down the final straight earned her a silver medal. Can she make it gold this time?
Other finals to be held are the men's 1500 metres (9.25), the men's triple jump (9.35), the men's shot put (9.40) and the women's sprint relay (9.55).
And at 10.15 some less happy memories from Helsinki with the men's 4x 100 metres relay - the sprinters hopefully mindful of the baton-dropping incident in the European Championships.
Introduced by Desmond Lynam, with Daley Thompson and David Moorcroft.
