Sir Thomas Beecham died ten years ago on 8 March 1961.
This programme is an impression of the man and his work in the opera house.
'When the judge in the Court of Chancery was told that Beecham had spent a fortune on music he asked: "And what good does that do anybody?" If Neville Cardus had been in court, he would perhaps have told the judge what he was to write in his autobiography years later, that Beecham identified himself with the great cause of cheering us all up.'
