York Bowen's second Viola Sonata
(1911), like his first, is dedicated to Lionel Tertis. It is in three movements:
Allegro assai, Grave, and Allegro giocoso. Hindemith's Sonata, composed in 1939, is in four movements: Breit mit Kraft, Sehr lebhaft, Phantasie, and Leicht bewegt (theme with two variations).
