A short story written for broadcasting by Graham Sutton and read by the author
For an accomplished and enthusiastic mountaineer to be instrumental in breaking the most famous ' needle ' in Lakeland the future is black indeed. How can he hope to live down his shame in the eyes of his fraternity ?
This is what happens to the teller of this light-hearted tale, though it should be explained that the deplorable incident is oddly connected with a visit to the dentist. Graham Sutton is himself a keen mountaineer, and has broadcast ' The Man Who Broke the Needle ' several times.
