An opera in two acts. Libretto by MANUEL MUJICA-LAINEZ
Music by Alberto Ginastera
(sung in the English translation by LIONEL SALTER )
A New Opera Company production in association with English National Opera direct from the London Coliseum
Bomarzo is the second opera by the Argentinian Alberto Ginastera. Based on a novel by Manuel Mujica-Lainez it is written in the form of an extended Bashback. The hunch-back Duke of Bomarzo lies dying in the garden of grotesque exotic stone monsters that he has created and relives his tortured, frustrated life. Ginastera has created a powerful score, intensely dramatic and rich in aural imagery, to complement the turbulent, vicious and sometimes erotic world depicted on stage.
