The Troglodytes of Chinon In the hills above the picturesque town of Chinon, in France's Loire Valley, the modem-day cave-dwellers present an astonishing sight to tourists. The houses of the troglodytes, little more than holes in the hillside, are occupied by whole families living in abject poverty.
Elaine Bedell reports on how this primitive 'tribe' survives in a civilised society.
