Selected and edited by NESTA PAIN with Angela Down as Naida Tiernay
When the Great War ended Naida Tiernay decided to travel. She placed an advertisement in The Times offering her services as a governess and found herself on Christmas Eve 1919 disembarking at Rangoon to begin a journey of 750 miles into the heart of Burma.
Over the next two-and-a-half years in letters home she described in vivid and amusing detail the day-today life of a Forest Officer and his family in a remote outpost of the British Empire.
