Educating Rita

on BBC One London

Willy Russell's award-winning comedy starring Michael Caine, Julie Walters

Rita White is 26 years old, married and a hairdresser. Her husband's main preoccupations are drinking in smoke-filled pubs and trying to get Rita pregnant. She, however, has other ideas. One afternoon she turns up at Frank Bryant 's Open University class demanding to be "educated". And all Frank wants is a quiet life and a bottle of scotch.

Tailor-made performances from Julie Walters and Michael Caine and outstanding support from a host of British character actors.
