visits the Buxton Festival, which this year takes as its theme Boccaccio's
Decameron, a collection of bawdy and uproarious tales from 14th-century
Italy. Both operas in the Festival are taken from the stories in the Decameron: Griselda by Vivaldi has not been staged anywhere since 1735 and La Colombe by Gounod will receive its first performance in this country for over 100 years.
