Kaleidoscope

on BBC Radio 4 FM

visits the Buxton Festival, which this year takes as its theme Boccaccio's
Decameron, a collection of bawdy and uproarious tales from 14th-century
Italy. Both operas in the Festival are taken from the stories in the Decameron: Griselda by Vivaldi has not been staged anywhere since 1735 and La Colombe by Gounod will receive its first performance in this country for over 100 years. Other events include readings and an exhibition of paintings. sculptures and drawings depicting episodes from the stories. Presenter Christopher Bigsby
