'Mother was very upset over Mr. Billings' death, and it hasn't improved her relations with Johnnie. But I have had my own worries because there has been a coldness between Jim and myself: Mother imagines it's all because of his economy drive and I haven't told her that what really worried me was seeing him come out of the Sutherland Hotel with Margaret Cunningham. I talked to Sally about it, but she only made me feel worse.'
