The Dust Bowl Balladeer

on BBC Radio 2

4/4. Billy Bragg concludes a tribute to American folk legend Woody Guthrie (1912-67) with a look at the postwar years, when political radicalism found a voice in folk music and Guthrie's star really began to rise. But his personal life was not untroubled, especially as the nervous disease he'd inherited from his mother took hold of him. With input from Bob Dylan , Pete Seeger , Donovan, Ramblin 1 Jack Elliott , anti-Ku Klux Klan activist Stetson Kennedy and Guthrie's children Arlo and Nora.
