After Germaine Greer met Frank Zappa and his wife Gail in Los Angeles in 1973, she described them as "the only two sane people in that hideous town . She went on to form a deep fascination for Zappa, his family and his music. As well as being a writer and performer of eccentric rock music, his range of work included orchestral composition, film-making and social activism, particularly in the field of anti-censorship.
