Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado
Since its foundation in 1842, the Vienna Philharmonic has come to be regarded as one of the grandest in the world. It has always been completely self-governing and independent, with the players themselves carrying out all the administration. They also choose the programmes and conductors they want, leading to the orchestra's autocratic reputation.
