A Class of his Own

on BBC Radio 3

A portrait of Fritz Wunderlich. The tribute is Dietrich Fischer- Dieskau's: "He was in a class of his own. All the more striking and grievous, therefore, is his silence now". When he died in 1966 in his 30s Fritz Wunderlich had already won international acclaim as the greatest German lyric tenor of his generation.
Nigel Douglas tells his story, with recordings of his performances in opera, operetta and oratorio.
