Concert Overture, Ellangowan
Dr. C. H. F. O'Brien was a pupil of the late Hamish MacCunn and early acquired a decidedly Scottish idiom, though his music has always preserved a classical flavour. His Overture 'To Spring ' was written more than thirty years ago, and is consequently an early work. ' Moorland ' was written as a pianoforte solo and has now been arranged for small orchestra, as the first movement of a suite. ' 'Ellangowan' was conducted by Sir Donald Tovey at one of the Reid Concerts two or three years ago. Dr. O'Brien's orchestral works have been performed by the Bournemouth and Eastbourne Orchestras.
