Sir Compton Mackenzie reminds us that the new century brought not only the end of a great reign but the passing of that great Victorian, Sir Arthur Sullivan. We hear music from The Emerald Isle, which, left unfinished by SuHivan. was completed by the man he named as his successor, Edward German. It was one of the first plays of the Edwardian era. We take leave, too, of the old Gaiety Theatre with sonars from its last show The Toreador, and a memory of that enchanting newcomer, Gertie Millar.
Sir Compton's guest, Miss Ada Reeve , talks about her roles in San Toy, Kitty Grey, and Three Little Maids, and songs from these plays are followed by memories of the smoking concert, the Music-Hall, and the ballroom. Harold Neden
