ST. MARTIN'S PARISH CHURCH, which is probably the oldest in the City of Birmingham, is said to have been built by the de Berminghams, who were Lords of the Manor from about the twelfth or thirteenth centuries. An ancient tomb in the church, dating- from 1306, bears the effigy of a knight whose arms art composed of five lozenges-a device which forms part of the city's arms today.
