Songs of Praise

on BBC One London

from Plymouth, Devon
Introduced by Geoffrey Wheeler
In 1580 the Golden Hind was sighted off Plymouth Hoe. She had been away for three years. Sir Francis Drake had circumnavigated the globe. This week the people of Plymouth begin their ' Drake 400 ' commemorative festival to celebrate this epic voyage and the Elizabethan spirit of adventure. Today they are gathered to sing their songs of praise in St Andrew 's Church-the church where Drake himself worshipped.
Eternal Father (Melita); Father hear the prayer we offer (Gott's will machen); 0 noble England (Monseurs Almaigne); Thine be the glory (Maccabaeus); 0 for a thousand tongues (Lyngham); Give me joy in my heart (Sing Hosanna); Guide me 0 thou great Redeemer (Cwm Rhondda); All creatures of our God and King (Easter Song).
