Composer of the Week: Debussy

on BBC Radio 3

Debussy was not born in propitious circumstances. At one stage his parents' home was a two-room attic flat in the Pigalle district of Paris, so wealthy benefactresses played a crucial part in his life as a musician. Today Donald Macleod discusses some of the women who were important influences on Debussy's life.

Tchaikovsky, arr Debussy Danse Russe - Dag Achatz and Yukie Nagai (pianos)

Debussy La Mer - Montreal Philharmonic, conductor Charles Dutoit
