Sunday Play: Voices from the Estate

on BBC Radio 3

A double bill of plays both set on the same housing estate.

1: Rita, Sue and Bob Too
By Andrea Dunbar. An extraordinary young playwright, Andrea Dunbar was a bright, fierce light that shone out of a tough Northern estate and made people laugh. Her play, set in the eighties, tells the no-holds-barred story of two teenage girls and their menage a trois with a married man.

2: A State Affair
Robin Soans's new work, set in 2000, is based on the real-life stories of the people who live today on the estate on which Rita, Sue and Bob Too is set, and the difficult lives they lead. Both plays deal with difficult subject matter, including sex, drugs and violence, in an explicit manner.
