With Donaid Macleod. Struggle has been central to Arvo Part's evolution as a composer. Initially he faced practical problems from a hostile Russian bureaucracy, but most of all he became haunted by profound doubts about his work. In response to this personal crisis he has evolved an extraordinary musical style which stands in contrast to the orthodoxy of the religious beliefs which have sustained him.
