The personnel of this popular and very successful band is composed entirely of Lancashire pit-workers. When the combination was first formed, it was known as the Abram Colliery Band. Not until 1937 did it adopt its present title. The following year it won second prize in the Crystal Palace Championships. For many years the ' Bickershaw ' has been hard to beat at the big festivals and competitions. In the last nineteen years it has won over 200 prizes, including fifty ' firsts
