(The recorded broadcast in the North of England Home Service on May 16) The Eden rises on the lonely Yorkshire-Westmorland border and flows North through some of the loveliest country in England till it reaches Carlisle, and then makes its way to the sea. Today it is famous as a salmon river but in the past it has seen many stirring actions which have come down in myth and legend. Even now the people refer to the river as ' she,' a relic of the times when the Eden was worshipped as a goddess by the Druids.
